Nagaland’s Wildlife Being Eaten To Extinction

Nagaland, once known for a variety of animal and bird species, is slowly witnessing decline in their numbers. Some are even on the verge of extinction. Driven by demand, wildlife is sold openly in markets. Venison, wild cats, jungle fowls, migratory birds is sold at exorbitant prices during weekly markets in Dimapur and Kohima; and sometimes along the national highways. Though it is an illegal trade, with severe penalties under the Indian Forest Act, sale continues irrespective. Read the full storyÂ here.
