Addressing the World Forestry Day programme here, Natarajan said she read "with horror" the report that the environment as a separate subject is removed from school curriculum. "I read a news item that NCERT has suggested ...a decision has been taken to remove the subject environment from the curriculum of schools. I am trying to verify and write to the Minister for Education. If it is true, I will make a very strong recommendation and request that it be restored," she told reporters on the sidelines of the function. NCERT, however, clarified that it has never dropped environmental studies as a separate subject. Officials said environment is taught as a separate subject upto Class 5 as an interface of science and social science. Read the full report here.
