Addressing a meeting at India Peace Centre (IPC) in Civil Lines on Sunday, KSS' women's wing chief Aradhana Bhargava said the samiti, along with over 2,000 projected-affected farmers from Chhindwara and Damoh staged demonstrations in Delhi against Adani and SKS power plants proposed to come in Chousra and Rahiwada in Chhindwara and another plant by Maxo in Damoh.
Bhargava was addressing the gathering after a fact-finding team consisting of Seema Sahu, Sunil Chokhare, AK Ghosh, Baba Shelke and Yashwant Telang submitted a report against the Adani power plant and a major dam being set up at Machagora. Ex-chief commissioner of income tax (CCIT) Dhananjay Dharmik was also present. He promised support to farmers' struggle.
Majority of farmers, most of them tribals, fear the power plants in the region would prove detrimental to agriculture and the dam will displace them. The KSS feels the dam is being built to benefit power plants hampering farmers' interests. It will also create water scarcity in Nagpur and surrounding region, they claim. Read the full report here.
