Forest officials deputed in the national parks said it had been more than six months since Dispur released funds for maintenance of the parks, which has led to serious problems as far as security and other development activities were concerned.
There are five national parks in the state â Manas, Kaziranga, Dibru-Saikhowa, Nameri and Orang.
Orang, the smallest national park of the state, requires about Rs 10 lakh per month for maintenance.
âApart from funds to feed domestic elephants, we have not received a penny for the last seven months," an official at Orang said, when contacted over phone.
âAlready 26 out of 42 casual workers have left and if more quit in the next few days, we will be in a serious problem," he said. Read the full report here.
