During his speech, Mr. Davey said that there may have been a change at the helm (this statement of course refers to him being appointed), but there will be no change in direction or ambition. His priority has always been very simple. He wants to focus on green growth, which will in term produce green jobs. In the end, Mr. Davey wants to give the best deal for energy bill payers.
Mr. Davey went on to say that he does believe in the need to “marry" the country's economic and environmental agendas. Overall, he believes that greening the economy is not just good for the planet, but it is going to be good for everyone's wallet as well.
As some already know, the former Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne resigned late last week. This happened after he was told by prosecutors that he would be charged over allegations his wife took the blame for a speeding offense that he had committed.
Overall, Mr. Davey believes that focusing on green energy is going to help in a number of ways. One of the things he noted was it should help reduce the dependence the UK has on London. It will also help reduce dependance on oil and gas that are imported from unstable parts of the world. These are all reasons why the UK has to start focusing on low carbon industries.
