Doctors and experts, who visited Pirkhali for a post-mortem on Tuesday, confirmed that the big cat had suffered no external injury and that its carcass was intact even after about 10 days of its death. The post-mortem report is expected in a couple of days.

A four-member medical team conducted the postmortem in the presence of Sundarban Tiger Reserve (STR) director Subrat Mukherji and assistant field director Anjan Guha. Several NGO representatives and animal rights activists were present as well. It was revealed that the tiger was around 14 years old and some of its teeth had fallen off.

“This indicates that the animal was old. Since there was no external injury mark and the entire carcass was intact, we can conclude that it died of natural causes," said a forest official. The post-mortem was recorded on video to assist investigation. Read the full report here.
