Passing through wild life areas to avoid accidents and loss of wildlife. The meeting was chaired by Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan.
The electric wires running through the wildlife parks and sanctuaries would now have to pass underground or have to be insulated. This follows from the said incidents of electrocution of leopards in Pench Tiger Reserve in MP.
The forest officers posted in wild life sanctuaries would have to undergo mandatory training from Wildlife Institute of India. The issue that was discussed in the last meeting once again figured prominently on Wednesday. “The twenty seats in WII reserved for training officers are being left vacant and availed by candidates from Bhutan and Thailand, but our Indian officers are not benefitting", pointed the members.
Since the officers are required to stay away for six-nine months the state governments are reluctant to spare them. The members have insisted upon the minister to stress on the time line of three years for completion of training of officers posted in the National Parks and sanctuaries, barring which the funding under wildlife be stopped to the errant States.
