State environment and forest minister Rockybul Hussain also announced a helpline where people can report incidents of leopards straying out into residential areas under the Kamrup east wildlife division. The helpline is 03612630046.
Assam chief wildlife warden, Suresh Chand, informed that the rapid response team will be headed by an assistant conservator of forest. The team will comprise five forest officials including a veterinarian.
"A vehicle equipped with a siren and a loudspeaker has been allocated to the team. Whenever there is call on the helpline about straying of a leopard or any other animal, the team will rush to the spot in less time to mitigate the conflict," Chand explained, adding that help from conservation NGOs will also be taken to deal with the conflict and rescue of animal.
The chief wildlife warden also informed that there was a plan to have rapid response team in all the territorial divisions of the forest department across the state. Read the full report here.
