Now, Send SMS For Environment Complaints

Ramesh is planning an 'Eco Sampark' to enable people to register complaints on issues relating to environment, forests and wildlife. The mobile-based system, Eco Sampark, is expected to be launched by March 15. "I see mobile phone as the game-changer for enforcement," Ramesh said. "People will be able to text their complaints or call in with their complaints."

Ramesh hopes that this will improve and democratise access. At present, people write in to the minister, ministry officials and even members of statutory committees. This limits avenues for people at large to register complaints. The use of the mobile phone to increase access will also help ensure public participation, as this would emerge as a system of monitoring by people. Read the full report here.
