"The area has the presence of a good population of panthers. There are about 40-45 panthers there. But often in the absence of suitable prey base, they enter villages and are often poached. Therefore, we have decided to begin the project here," U M Sahai, chief wildlife warden of Rajasthan, said.
The project will be for a period of five years and a sum of Rs 5 crore will be spent during this period for sprucing up the territory for the panthers. "Not only do we plan to build walls in the area so that people do not come in here to graze their cattle but we also want to ensure that water bodies and wells have high embankments build around them, so that panthers do not fall into them," Sahai said.
