Over hundreds of vehicles remained stranded as villagers blocked the highway for three hours with the dead body of the boy and raised slogans against the district and wildlife officials.
They also attacked the District Forest Office in the area and reportedly damaged a property worth rupees 20 lakhs, they added.
However, normalcy was restored after the district and wildlife administration officials rushed to the spot and ensured the villagers of immediate necessary action.
The incident had occurred at around 9 pm last night when the six-year-old boy Liyaqat was attacked by the leopard near a hospital in Batote town of Doda district.
Confirming the incidents of violence, District Commissioner (Ramban), Shabbir Ahmed added that the exact amount of damage is still to be ascertained. Read the full report here.
