Radhanagri Diversion May Be Cleared

The proposal for denotification of 14.12 ha area (10.98 ha for submergence and 3.14 ha for dam construction) from 351.16 sq km sanctuary in Kolhapur Wildlife Division had come up in the 20th NBWL meeting held on October 13, 2010. Savarde being in core area, the proposal was opposed by NBWL member Kishor Rithe stating that diversion of forest land from Radhanagri will affect the adjoining Sahyadri Tiger Reserve (STR).

The chief wildlife warden (CWLW) of Maharashtra is in favour of diverting the land allegedly under political pressure. The proposal has already been approved by the state chief minister as chairman of the state board for wildlife (SBWL). Read the full report here.
