The environment ministry had indicted Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's Office, his cabinet minister Kiran Choudury and senior officials of the state government for harassing a whistleblower, forest officer Sanjiv Chaurvedi, who blew the lid on the heist.
Though Ramesh had ordered that charges against Chaturvedi be dropped, the minister had not given a clear signal for the CBI inquiry. Instead, he asked Haryana government to respond to the ministry's findings and take action.
Haryana government has refused to order a probe into the case. State forest minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav has written to Ramesh, questioning the intent and manner of the Union government's inquiry into the matter. After having spent several crores as fine and fees to lawyers to defend the actions of its officials and politicians, the Haryana government is unlikely to budge from its stand.
