Ramesh Softens Stand On Navi Mumbai Airport Tangle

Ramesh whose Ministry's Expert Appraisal Committee has sought clarifications from Maharashtra government and City Industrial Development Corporation Limited, however, called for a greater degree of accommodation on environmental issues.

 

"We have made a number of suggestions on mitigating the environmental impact on the site," he told reporters in Bangalore.

 

"My position has been that, if Navi Mumbai is the only location where two runways are possible which is what (Civil Aviation Minister) Praful Patel told me.. then okay let's take that as a starting point. And let's see how we can avoid the loss of mangroves, how we can minimise river diversions and all the other environmental costs," Ramesh said. Read the full report here.
