Rare Greater White-fronted Goose Sighted In Bhigwan

While observing a flock of about of about 300 Bar-headed Geese, Dr. Gaikwad spotted a Greater White-fronted Goose among them. It took him five hours before he could get a clear photograph of the bird.

Greater White-fronted Geese are long distance migrants and are named for the patch of white feathers bordering the base of their bills.

This lone individual had probable strayed to Bhigwan with the flock of Bar-headed Geese. Greater white-fronted geese are 64-81 cm.  in length and have a 130-165 cm. wingspan. They have bright orange legs and mouse-coloured upper wing-coverts.
