Rajan led the kids on a tour of the Morjim Turtle Interpretation Centre and shared special experiences from his years of managing the turtle hatchery and rescuing injured turtles. Rajan thrilled the kids with fun facts and interactive activities, including emulating a mother turtle digging her nest in the sand! He showed the kids how the temperature of the sand varies at different depths and told them how the incubation temperature of the egg determines the sex of the hatchling.

A committed turtle conservationist, Rajan's work was brought to Sanctuary's attention by Puja Mitra, Founder of Terra Conscious. Rajan has now been selected as a Project Leader under Sanctuary's Mud on Boots Project and will receive customised support from the Sanctuary Nature Foundation over the next two years. Along with his turtle protection work, Rajan hopes to introduce a new generation of Goan children to the wonders of Goa's marine biodiversity.

The Mud on Boots Project is a booster programme that has been designed to empower grassroots conservationists across India. To support this unique initiative, write to cara@sanctuaryasia.com
