Photo: Tahir Shawl The orders were passed at a meeting held in Jammu and headed by B.B. Vyas, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. Others J&K officials attending included the Commissioner and Secretaries, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Chief Wildlife Warden, and Secretary Technical (Forests). The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has instructed that an alternate site at Khimber be allocated to shift the sheep farm, lock, stock and barrel, for which purpose a Detailed Project Report is being put together by April 31, 2017 to ensure implementation of the government order between May to September 2017.
The above action will greatly enhance the water security of Srinagar as the Dagwan river that flows through the Dachigam National Park is the principal source of drinking water for the city. It will also give the highly endangered Hangul deer an extra lease on life. This action follows a decision taken at a meeting of the J&K State Board for Wildlife, Chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on November 22, 2016.
