One aspect of nature conservation that has not quite received the attention that it should in and around SGNP, is the park's need for silence. Silence not just an 'absence of noise', but rather as the dominance of natural sounds... bird and animal calls, rain, wind through trees and flowing water. Many of the thousands of individuals that regularly visit SGNP in fact do so to search for the peace and quiet that silence and natural vistas offer, which the city conspires to steal from us.

Having the park as a noise-free zone, will go a long way in protecting this forest and you can help make that a reality.

Join us on April 27, 2014, at 7.00 a.m. at the main gate of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park to be a part of 'Shhh! Leave me Alone', to symbolise our resolve and to follow up the city's many initiatives to commemorate Earth Day 2014.

About the event:

This is probably going to be India's first ever silent demonstration of support for a National Park (all communications will be by way of placards) and a dramatic mime performance. We are asking everyone to bring placards and posters, embellished with their own logos and messages to demonstrate our collective resolve. The image will be sent across the world, to the entire Earth Day network.
