TOI had reported how the new guidelines issued by the environment ministry fell foul of the Forest Rights Act. The guidelines allowed relocation of forest dwellers out of their forest lands without following the provisions of the Act which lays down strict criteria for declaring any wildlife patch free of people.
Initially, environment minister Jairam Ramesh came out with a clarification against the report and claimed that the guidelines were in conformity with the Act. His clarification contradicted the guidelines but he defended the rules and did not ask for changes. Read the full report here.
