Within hours of the court hearing, Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh, whose ministry had issued the demolition order in January, said: "Although no formal stay order was passed by the learned bench nor any other interim relief granted, it seems appropriate to respect the outcome of the judicial process and not proceed with the demolition before the hearing scheduled on April 27.''
The minister had in January said that Adarsh "violated the very spirit of the CRZ Notification, 1991, by not even acknowledging the need for clearance under this notification.''
The court will now hear the tainted society's plea against the demolition order on April 27. A bench of Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R G Ketkar said: "Without hearing we cannot say go ahead with demolition. We would like to hear both sides to satisfy our judicial conscience.''
