According to state forest minister Ram Lal Jat, the centre would impart training to park rangers and lower staff of all the 13 tiger ranges in the country. "The centre would impart training to rangers from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. It would be set up in collaboration with Smithsonian Centre of Conservation Biology," the minister said.
The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) is located on a 3,200-acre campus just outside the historic town of Front Royal, Virginia. An extension of the National Zoological Park in Washington DC, the SCBI has played a lead role in the fields of veterinary medicine, reproductive physiology and conservation biology since its launch in 1974.
Sources said that the possibility of the training centre coming up near Sanjay Van in Shahpura was also discussed at a preliminary meeting between the director of World Bank Bruno Laporte and Ram Lal Jat. The meeting was concurred upon by Union minister of forests and environment Jairam Ramesh who would be in the city on April 4 for discussing further nitty-gritties for the centre.
