State Sluggish On Power Expansion

The Maharashtra government is yet to come out with an environmental impact assessment (EIA) study for thermal power projects planned in the Konkan region, thereby pushing expansion plans into the cold storage. The moratorium on power plant development and coal mining in Konkan will end by June 30. It may have to be further extended in case of EIA no-show .

Jairam Ramesh, Union environment minister, who was in the city on Wednesday, announced that he has asked chief minister Prithviraj Chavan to come out with the EIA to go ahead with the projects. Read the full report here.
