Sunken ship threatens ridleys in Orissa

The accident site is near the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary, well-known as one of the world's last remaining mass nesting sites of olive ridley sea turtles. Even small amounts of contamination could affect jelly fish, molluscs and shrimps that the turtles feed on. It remains to be seen whether the Supreme Court will take note of the threats posed to turtles when considering the controversial Dhamra Port.
