Tadoba has seen a rise in tiger and leopard populations over the last few years and the Forest Department is now considering translocating some of the big cats to forests with dwindling populations. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has approved the measure and Praveen Pardeshi, Principal Secretary of Forests, has asked S.W.H. Naqvi, Chief Wildlife Warden, to submit a proposal for the initiative. Speaking about the programme, Pardeshi said, "Good conservation measures have helped in the rise of population of carnivores in the Tadoba landscape. The Government of India is keen to give permission for translocation of tigers in the forests devoid of them. States like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have shown an interest in taking these predators." In Sanctuary's view, a far better option would be to immediately and purposefully channel resources and energy into Community Nature Conservancies abutting Tadoba, so that people become the beneficiaries of good wildlife conservation.
