The world's first eco-friendly city

Spanning over six square kilometres, the city will feature state-of-the-art recycling systems; an underground transportation system to eliminate the need for cars and energy efficient buildings. Developers hope that the project will see the creation of sustainable urban models which can then be replicated worldwide. The involved parties, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company signed their agreement on June 21, 2009 and the city is already in the design phase.
