"Although blackbucks are the mainstay, the sanctuary is also a bird-watcher's delight with demoiselle cranes coming all the way from Central Asia every year during winter. Taal Chapper must be brought on to the tourist circuit in a public-private partnership (PPP) mode. It could perhaps be clubbed with the Bharatpur bird sanctuary," said Jairam on a visit to the Vishnoi belt proposed in Taal Chhaper in Churu district.
According to a Ficci study, "There is great regional disparity in the development of tourism infrastructure through PPP mode. Most of the projects are concentrated in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka while a few of them are in Orissa and Kerala and so far only one project each in Punjab and Rajasthan. This trend needs to be addressed to have rapid development of tourism infrastructure especially in the regions which are lagging behind."
The Tal Chapper blackbuck sanctuary is an unusual one located as it is in a desert ecosystem and almost all nearby villages have sacred grooves guarded by the Vishnois' called orans'. Read the full report here.
