Formosa Taffeta, a leading global nylon and polyester manufacturer, got the certificate yesterday from BSI Taiwan.
According to TTRI, Formosa Taffeta is deeply committed to environmental protection and strives to reduce carbon emissions, in keeping with the Copenhagen Accord.
The accord was signed in 2009 in the Danish capital by over 20 member nations of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), who gave their backing to a document that calls for keeping global warming at under 2 degrees Celsius.
“While Taiwan is not a member of the UNFCCC, Formosa Taffeta seeks to fulfill its corporate responsibility by contributing to a slowing down of global warming, in the same spirit as the various documents signed by member nations of the convention," TTRI said.
TTRI takes the issue of sustainability seriously. In July 2010 it established a carbon footprint consultation taskforce. In August of the same year it signed a “product carbon footprint memorandum of understanding" with BSI to provide carbon reduction verification for local textile manufacturers.
Already, TTRI has helped two local dyeing companies obtain 11 carbon footprint reduction certificates, and has helped Formosa Taffeta get the statement of verification of greenhouse gases. Read the full report here.
