There's more. Among these 1,600 species, the experts discovered 120 species which are new to India, and two species which have been seen for the first time in the world.
Specimens of all the spider species are now displayed at the arachnology museum located at the university, an institute devoted to the study of spiders in India. The facility is used by arachnologists from the country and abroad, especially for the taxonomic study of the spiders.
According to Vankhede, there are about 42,500 species of spiders known in the world. In India, only 1,600 spider species are known (only 2.75% of the total species), and all these species have been discovered in Central India.
