Incidentally, yet another tiger had strayed into the same village from the Sunderbans a fortnight ago. A section of forest officers believe that this increased incidents of straying of the big cats into human habitation is indicative of a rise in tiger population in the mangrove forest. All the three tigers that have strayed into Samsernagar are below six years.
“It is common for tigers to stray during the mating season. They generally comb the entire habitat for mates. This is a healthy sign," said a Sundarban Tiger Reserve officer.

On Wednesday morning, locals heaved a sigh of relief when they saw a tiger trapped in a cage that had been strategically placed in the village. The previous evening the same cage had been used to trap the tigress. Foresters believe the male tiger had come into the village in search of its partner.

The tigress that had strayed into the village earlier was trapped around 8 pm on Tuesday night. According to local villagers, the tigress had been visiting the village regularly for the past few days. Read the full report here.
