Over a month has passed but no action has been taken in this regard. "If the tanneries are not able to fulfil the norms, these units can be closed or their power and water supply can be cut off by the administration," Regional Officer of UPPCB, Radheyshyam, said, adding that the action could not be initiated earlier due to some official obligations.According to UPPCB officials, the tanneries were asked to prepare a log book and note their production and the hazardous waste their units are generating. They said these units were not using the electro-magnetic flow meter and energy meter and primary treatment plants were also not being used properly. Read the full report here.
