Village Relocation Makes Way for Elephants

This success story is the handiwork of the Wildlife Trust of India, which has been working in this area for several years. A foundation stone was laid by the Honorable Recho Haising Ronghang, the 40th King of Karbi Anglong, on May 7, 2013, marking the relocation site. According to the WTI, a model ethnic Karbi village will be established for the 19 relocating families. The elephant corridor between Kalapahar and Doigurung-Nambor Wildlife Sanctuary, in the Kaziranga-Karbi Anglong landscape is used by about 1,800 elephants and if successful, the relocation of the village will enable them to have safe passage through the area.
