"The rivers have been polluted mainly due to corruption as the government has failed to properly implement various schemes and also to start new campaigns for cleaning the rivers," said Baba Seechewal, who has led the volunteer effort involving thousands to rejuvenate the historic Kali Bein.

He held that while providing funds for cleaning was a welcome step but more important was to ensure implementation of the law and the rule book, as polluting industry and other quarters were cocking a snook at law with the help of the corrupt.
