The project is located on a section of the Alaknanda where it flows through a deep, largely uninhabited gorge which reduces the impact on the local communities and environment.
The TDHC, which is a joint venture corporation of the centre and the UP government, will be implementing this project which is expected to generate an estimated 1,665 million kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.
The agreement was signed by Venu Rajamony, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, on behalf of the Government of India; R.S.T. Sai, CMD, THDC; S.D.Sharma, Additional Resident/Investment Commissioner on behalf of the Government of Uttarakhand and Roberto Zagha, Country Director for India on behalf of the World Bank.
