Neat, minimalistic, sans graphics, the MoEF website, one of the few laudable steps taken by Suresh Prabhu, former Minister for Environment and Forests, is an invaluable first step. At another level, the site holds out a promise of transparency, but is not by far interactive enough. For instance, you are provided with a short status report, but not the background of the issue, nor the views of opponents to projects. Hopefully, debate and discussion with decision-makers will help make this a real tool of democracy by supporting the most basic of all rights - real access to information.
