Jairam Ramesh Writes To PM On Coal Shortage

Interestingly, the letter has been written in a time when there is acute shortage of coal. Everybody is kind of blaming the environment ministry for the on going ‘go-no-go' area controversy.

What does this letter read?

This letter was written in the last week of April. It says that about 50 million tonnes of coal has accumulated at pit heads. 450 million tonnes of coal is produced annually and this idle 50 million tones accounts for nearly 10% of it.

This coal has been lying idle due to want of evacuation facilities, which are not in place. Mainly, due to the shortage of rates and the pit heads not being connected properly with power projects through railways. Read the full report here.
